Preparing to install CubeCart for the first timeThe latest CubeCart v3 release can be downloaded from the CubeCart.com Downloads page. Within the downloaded ZIP file, there are 3 main subdirectories:
The only directory that is relevant for first time installation is the 'uploads' directory, which contains the complete distribution. There are two aspects to CubeCart which are important to note:
Uploading the filesThe files can be uploaded using your FTP client software.Decide on a suitable location for your store, ie if you want to have the store in a sub directory like this... 'http://www.mydomain.com/shop/', then you will need to upload the files to a location similar to this... 'mydomain.com/public_html/shop/'. NOTE: Setting up your FTP software is not directly a CubeCart issue, therefore not currently covered here. However there are plans to cover this in the near future. Creating the databaseThe database can be created using your hosting admin panel. The database technology used is called 'mySQL'. Most hosting services offer this as part of their package. If you do not have access to a hosting administration panel, then you will need to contact your hosting service provider and they can do it for you. When the database is created, you will need to make a note of three things:
Proceeding with the installationOnce the files have been uploaded, and the database has been created you can now proceed with the installation process.Using your browser, browse to the location you have uploaded the CubeCart files to on your website... ie if you have uploaded to 'mydomain.com/public_html/shop/', then you will need to browse to 'http://www.mydomain.com/shop/'. The installer will then start, and you will see the first page as shown at Step 1. |
